The Caviar of Spring Vegetables

In Uncategorized on April 14, 2009 at 3:02 am

Martha Stewart has a lovely tribute to my favorite spring vegetable–asparagus. Divided into three parts–appetizers, mains and sides–the slideshow features easy-as-pie recipes to follow. My favorites include simplicities like Spaghetti with Shaved Asparagus

In Fashion on April 14, 2009 at 2:31 am

The Supermodel Issue is out! This year they did something a bit different, a bit more personal–they photographed the most successful models of the moment with their real-life boyfriends. Who are these modelizers you wonder? Vogue includes a brief caption with each photo dishing the details…(I found these scans off a blog but they will be online later this week)

The Woman Before Anna Wintour

In Fashion on April 8, 2009 at 4:27 am

This month Vogue catches up with Polly Mellen, THE veteran of the fashion industry. At 84, she is now retired after a 28-year career as a Fashion Editor at Vogue, and most recently, having left her final post as Creative Director at Allure. Alone with her husband Henry, she still keeps busy practicing pilates daily, cooking organic meals and reading all of the classics that she never had time for at her Kent, Connecticut, farmhouse. A well-lived life, I’d say.

Ruth’s Favorites

In Food on April 7, 2009 at 3:21 am

Gourmet has unveiled its monthly “Ruth’s Favorites” for May. From the looks of the recipes listed here, I’m going to guess the new issue will be the Italian issue? I hope so. I absolutely love this annual issue: Italian food is always about quality ingredients, with very minimal effort–and I spend my semester abroad in Siena, Italy, so I have a natural soft spot for the Italians. I’m always looking for unique ways to cook white beans and I love this rustic version baked with the upcoming bounty of  beautifully sweet cherry tomatoes. I can’t wait to cook this dish and serve it with a roasted sea bass and sauteed greens.

Party at Martha’s house!

In Food on April 6, 2009 at 5:31 am

I don’t often check out the Martha Blog on her website, but when I saw that the title today was “Dinner Party” I just had to take a look. What does Martha Stewart, the woman responsible for bringing feminism back into the kitchen, serve for a dinner party? And WHO is invited?? Turns out it was a “business” dinner party with the likes of whom we’ll never know, and she not surprisingly recruited the head chef at Benoit, in Manhattan. Chef Pierre Schaedelin created a menu around the pristine  spring produce that Martha undoubtedly grew in her backyard: Warm Salad of Spring Vegetables – Green Pea JusOsso Bucco – Risotto Milanese with Saffron – Pavlova – Passion Fruit Sorbet.

Stefani is BACK

This morning I came across some candid photos of Gwen Stefani’s new upcoming Elle cover shoot. As usual, she is looking fierce in her signature red lipstick, red stripes and perfectly pale complexion. No Doubt will be performing on the Today Show May 1st after a five year hiatus. LOVE it. Looks like all of the wannabes (you know who you are, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Fergie) will have some new material to inspire them!10xzepkizcpacmc42eu
